Several of the large blocks of sandstone and quartzrich sandstone were removed from the unit at this stage including 1:1 F4, the quartz-rich boulder in the extension to the south of the unit. Six features were identified at the surface of 1:5. 1:5 F1 was an area of slightly differently coloured and textured soil on the northeast side of the large boulder (1:1 F2) in which a few ceramic sherds were found. Other sherds were found around this large boulder with a scatter on the west side (cat. 507) and another to the north of the boulder (cat. 509). A sample of charcoal (cat. 513) was found near the sherds (cat. 507) and collected for radiocarbon dating, the results of which are presented below. It is likely that 1:5 F1 represents the pit that was dug to accommodate this large boulder. The rim of a ceramic earthenware jar was exposed on the north baulk on the east side and labeled 1:5 F2. Another earthenware rim inside an area of slightly differently coloured soil along the east baulk was called 1:5 F3 (a lid was also uncovered in this context and labelled cat. 514) and 1:5 F4 was a large fragment of ceramic in the southeast corner of the unit. 1:5 F5 was yet another ceramic vessel rim that appeared in the extension off the south side of the unit and was directly beneath the quartz-rich boulder labelled 1:1 F4 (now removed). The vessel found in this feature was labelled as cat. 521. To the southeast of this ceramic vessel a circular feature (5YR4/2) was recognised which contained two pieces of earthenware sherds and some human teeth and was duly labelled as Burial 5. 1:5 F6, the final feature at this spit level, was a limestone boulder which protruded out of the east baulk near the northeast corner of the unit. After the removal of 1:5, it was apparent that the soil was changing colour and so a Layer change was made. The following spit was labelled as 2:1 which was a deeper red colour (2.5YR 3/5) and contained more clay.
