Site 124

Nam Paen, Nam Kon Gnua village. 4 groups of jars and quarry. This site was visited and geolocated by Skopal and Bounxayhip in 2020. The jars are made from conglomerate and there is a quarry near a jar site (classed as a group here). There is also an unusual zoomorphic carving in the quarry (Group 2) which resembles the zoomorphic figures found at some sites including Site 52. Skopal and Bounxayhip recorded 10 Breccia jars across three groups positioned over two separate hills, with views predominately to the West over the surrounding lower lying rice paddies. The first group contains seven badly damaged jars, with the area being impacted by off burning. There were likely more jars present, with remnants of broken jar pieces throughout the site. Approximately 160m to the South of Group 1 is a large stone outcrop on a hill spread over an area of ca. 10,000 sqm, which contains a single unfinished jar and a point where stone has been extracted from the rock face to form a jar (Group 2). Ca. 150m to the West of Group 2 is a single unfinished jar (Group 3), which appears to have fallen down the hill from the quarry area. One jar from Group 1 displays an Outer Rim, the remainder are undeterminable.
