After the removal of 10cm of matrix revealing the surface of 2:1, it was apparent that the feature 1:4 F1 (darker soil) was considerably reduced in size and at this level was c. 30 cm in diameter and in the centre of the feature another earthenware rim was exposed and this was labelled as 2:1 F1. This vessel was directly beneath where the large sandstone cube (1:1 F6) was located. Resting on top of the ceramic vessel (cat. 518) was a ceramic, earthenware lid (cat. 515). The east side of the vessel cat. 518 was absent while the west side was intact. It may be that the later activity to the east, such as digging other burial pits along the east baulk, disturbed this vessel which would indicate this burial predates those to the east of it. Excavating what was 1:5 F4 in the south east corner of the unit revealed a ceramic vessel (cat. 525) and the feature 1:5 F3, directly north of this, when excavated, revealed another ceramic vessel (cat. 524) with a lid (cat. 514), both partially in the east baulk. Along the north baulk 1:5 F2 also rendered ceramic sherds. These were uncovered at the 2:1 level along with a small piece of sandstone. In the southwest corner of the unit another feature was named 2:1 F2 which also comprised large ceramic sherds situated beneath the larger boulder.
