1.1

Feb. 19, 2019

Across most of the unit in 1:1 the matrix was a reddish-brown colour (2.5YR 4/4). Only two features were apparent on the surface of 1:1 both of which were larger pieces of sandstone (1:1 Features 1 and 2). Other small scatters of sandstone were noted across the unit. Excavation rendered ceramic sherds (cat.s 3, 5, 7, 10-20), charcoal (cat.s 8, 9), an iron disc, c. 2cm in diameter, which was plain on one side but dimpled on the other (cat. 2). Possibly this is related to military activity at the site in the 1970s. A fragment of chlorite pendant (cat. 4) c. 4cm x 2 cm with a perforation was uncovered and a chlorite barrel bead (cat. 6) c. 3 cm in length and an agrellite flake (cat. 70) were recovered from the sieve. To the west side of jar (#0022) there were three lumps of sandstone similar to that from which the jars are made. The removal of 1:1 rendered 588 pieces of sandstone totalling 14.3 kg.
