The grass was cleared and surface 1:1 exposed.
The sandstone disc was left in situ in the northwest
corner of the unit until 30 cm of soil surrounding it
was removed. To the southeast of the disc five stones in
a line running northeast were uncovered. To the south of these a large assemblage of stones was uncovered, mostly sandstone chips but also limestone boulders and smaller limestone blocks. This was labelled as 1:1 Feature 1. The soil in the feature was of a slightly differ- ent colour, dark brown (7.5 YR 3/3) to the surrounding matrix which was dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3). An iron blade (cat 302), of modern appearance, was found in the centre of the feature. Other items within the fea- ture included fragments of shrapnel (cat. 301), modern glass (not collected) and an iron fragment (cat. 303).
