To the south of these a large assemblage of stones was uncovered, mostly sandstone chips but also limestone boulders and smaller limestone blocks. This was labelled as 1:1 Feature 1. The soil in the feature was of a slightly differ- ent colour, dark brown (7.5 YR 3/3) to the surrounding matrix which was dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3). An iron blade (cat 302), of modern appearance, was found in the centre of the feature. Other items within the fea- ture included fragments of shrapnel (cat. 301), modern glass (not collected) and an iron fragment (cat. 303).
