The removal of 1:3 exposed the surface of 2:1. At this juncture the sandstone disc in the northwest corner of the unit was removed. Below this artefact the soil was dark reddish brown (2.5YR 2.5/3) differing from the surrounding matrix which was reddish brown (2.5YR 4/4). In the middle of the feature, which was labelled 2:1 Feature 2, was a limestone block and on the southern edge were c. 60 ceramic fragments, some with incised decorations (cat. 305). Along the middle of the western wall three ceramic fragments were recorded (cat. 308). 1:1 Feature 1 continued to be evident and larger limestone and sandstone blocks were uncovered in this area. The soil continued to be different, a dusky red (2.5YR 3/2) , from that surrounding the feature which was reddish brown (2.5YR 4/4). A large limestone block was located outside this darker area in the southern portion of the unit. In the northeast corner of the unit the top of a ceram- ic vessel was exposed along with some sherds which had broken from it (cat. 308). Fifteen other sherds in this area were found on the surface of 2:1 (cat. 314).
