The matrix remained a reddish-brown colour (2.5YR
4/4) in 1:2 (Fig. 30). The surface of 1:2 revealed
the presence of two ceramic scatters, one near the
west baulk comprising a 15 x 10 cm stone (cat. 35)
with sherds strewn about which was labelled as 1:2
Feature 1 (cat.s 18, 19) and deeper in the feature a
near complete ceramic vessel (cat. 36) with a stone
place atop it. Forty cm east of this feature a
fragment of worked sandstone was uncovered. To the
southeast of jar #0022 another scatter of sherds was
uncovered and labelled as 1:2 Feature 2 (these sherds
were labelled as belonging to cat. 12). 1:2 Feature 3, a
scatter of 33 sherds (cat. 21), was found to the south of
the sandstone disc (006) in NE corner of Unit 1 in 1:2.
Disc 006 (Fig. 9) was removed from the unit and this
was revealed to be decorated on the underside with
concentric circles in circular pyramidal shape.
The disc has been damaged sometime in the past with
some of the carved circle is broken off. This damage
predates Colani’s visit to the site as her photograph
illustrates the disc in a similar condition. The matrix
beneath Disc 006 revealed the presence of fragments
of degraded limestone. A charcoal sample
was taken from immediately below the disc (cat. 22).
Another charcoal sample was taken from 1:1 Feature 2
which was an elongated piece of sandstone and another (cat. 24) from 1:2 just west-southwest of jar #0022.
